The architecture in Phnom Penh is so diverse that you will see ancient temples next to shacks or fancy new high-rise buildings. In the past two years, Phnom Penh has undergone an enormous property boom and new buildings pop up on every corner.

One of the most fascinating things about the old Buddhist temples that are dotted around Phnom Penh is that you get to witness true temple life. Not only are temples home to the numerous Buddhist monks, they are also a refuge for the poorest of society who can find a safe place to sleep and get to share a meal with the monks twice a day.

Poverty often lies right next to luxury.

So as you can see the architecture in Phnom Penh is immensely diverse. Phnom Penh is an up and coming city and could well become a big metropolis, such as Bangkok, in the years to come.
